Psyché Tropes Episode 34
11pm, 27 October 2025 on Resonance 104.4 FM
Presented by Steven McInerney, Episode 34 features live spatial arrangements by Amanda Butterworth, Matt Spendlove, Georgina Brett, and Merkaba Macabre recorded at the Psyché Tropes Three-day residency at Project DIVFUSE in April 2025.
A live binaural recording of two pieces composed for a 6.1 configuration by Amanda Butterworth and Matt Spendlove were captured on a Sennheiser Ambeo headset exploring emergent algorithmic processes that generate a 3D aural space of phasing minimalism. These works create temporary communities of pattern-makers, where the multichannel environment becomes a shared space for discovering emergent sonic relationships.
Georgina Brett’s hexaphonic recording utilises her live vocal collages that transfer live outboard techniques to computer based programs for 3D ambisonic spatialisation.
Merkaba Macabre’s quadraphonic sonic-light composition from the opening night of the Psyché Tropes Three-day residency converts 1 volt RGB analogue video channels, to 5 volt audio levels, allowing discreet colours to with syncrhonise with sound through controlled voltage. This work is part of the artist's continued research in audiovisual entrainment through the perception of rapid stimuli, using flicker, repeating patterns, and colour combinations.
